Community rules
Short version: share what you know, protect who you know. These rules form part of the terms.
- Never identify anyone. No names, nicknames, initials that identify, photos, addresses, phone numbers, emails or social handles — of pupils, patients, customers, colleagues, managers or yourself.
- Never identify a workplace where it could identify people: no school, hospital, branch or company names. “A primary in the Midlands” is fine; the actual school isn’t.
- No allegations about identifiable people. If something serious happened, report it through the proper channels, not here. Safeguarding concerns about a child must go to your Designated Safeguarding Lead, the NSPCC or the police.
- No harassment, hate, threats or slurs. Disagree with ideas, not people.
- Nothing sexual involving anyone under 18, and nothing that sexualises pupils, patients or clients. This is reported to the authorities.
- No confidential data. Registers, records, grades of identifiable people, internal documents, screenshots.
- Be honest. Confessions can be funny, blunt and unflattering. They must not be invented to deceive or to smear.
- No spam, promotion or manipulation. One account per person; no vote rings.
- Verified means verified. Don’t claim a profession you don’t have; don’t share your verified account.
What happens if a rule is broken
| Breach | Usual response |
|---|---|
| Minor, first time (e.g. a stray first name) | Content held or removed, note to the author. |
| Repeated minor breaches | Removal and a 7-day posting suspension. |
| Identifying a person or workplace with an allegation, harassment, hate | Removal and account suspension; closure on repeat. |
| Child-safety, sexual content involving under-18s, threats, illegal content | Immediate removal, permanent closure, and referral to the relevant authority where appropriate. |
Every post passes automated checks and, at this stage, human review. Anything mentioning something sensitive is always read by a person before it goes live. You can appeal any decision within 30 days: reply to the notification or email safety@confesstheweb.com. See something wrong? Use Report on any post or comment — how reporting works.
