Terms of use

These terms are the agreement between you and [data controller name — set in Admin → Settings] for using Confessions Of (“the service”). By creating an account or posting, you accept them together with the community rules and privacy notice.

1. Who can use the service

You must be 18 or over. You confirm this when you register. We may close accounts we reasonably believe belong to anyone younger. You may hold one account.

2. Your account and anonymity

We give you a generated handle and never publish your email. Keep your password private and turn on two-factor authentication if you can; you are responsible for activity on your account. We take reasonable steps to protect your anonymity, but it is not absolute: see Anonymity, and its limits in the privacy notice. Do not rely on anonymity to post things you would not stand behind.

3. What you may not post

The community rules form part of these terms. In particular you must not post content that:

• identifies or could identify any person (pupil, patient, customer, colleague, manager, yourself) or any specific workplace where that could identify people;
• makes allegations about identifiable people, or is defamatory;
• concerns the safety or welfare of a child, or sexualises anyone under 18 (this is reported to the authorities);
• is harassing, threatening, hateful or discriminatory;
• discloses confidential or personal data you hold through your work;
• is illegal, promotes illegal activity, or infringes someone’s rights;
• is spam, advertising, or manipulates votes, reactions or Heat.

4. Moderation and enforcement

Every post and comment passes through automated screening and, where flagged, human review before publication. We may remove or refuse content, hold it for review, edit it to remove identifying details where our policy allows, restrict features, suspend or close accounts, and preserve or disclose material where the law requires. We aim to act proportionately: a first minor breach usually means removal and a warning; serious or repeated breaches mean suspension or closure. You can appeal any decision (section 9).

5. Your content and licence

You keep ownership of what you post. You grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, publish, adapt (for example into share cards, quotations or short videos), promote and distribute it, always without your real identity, for as long as it remains on the service and in materials created while it was. You confirm you have the right to post it and that it complies with section 3. Content that becomes persistent or enters the Vault may stay published after you close your account, attributed to an anonymous tombstone; you can ask us to remove specific items.

6. Content lifecycle

New community content is ephemeral and leaves public view after a set period unless it earns enough engagement to become persistent. We decide, at our discretion, what becomes persistent or enters the Vault. Expired or removed content is retained privately as described in the privacy notice.

7. Editorial and AI-assisted content

Some items are written by our team (“Editorial”) or drafted with AI assistance and reviewed by a person (“AI-assisted”). Both are labelled. They are general observations about a profession, not the testimony of an identified individual.

8. Nothing here is advice

Content is anonymous opinion and experience. It is not professional, legal, medical, educational or employment advice, and we do not verify individual claims. Verification confirms only that an account belongs to someone in the stated profession.

9. Complaints and appeals

To report content, use Report on any post or comment. To complain about a moderation decision on your own content, reply to the notification or email safety@confesstheweb.com; a different moderator reviews appeals within 7 days. 10. Our service

We provide the service as it is. We will try to keep it available and secure but do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we may change or withdraw features. We own the Confessions Of name, logo, design and software.

11. Liability

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited by law. Otherwise, we are not liable for loss or damage arising from content posted by users, from your reliance on content, or from your breach of these terms; and our total liability to you is limited to £100. You agree to compensate us for claims arising from content you post in breach of section 3.

12. Ending things

You can close your account at any time in Settings. We can suspend or close accounts under section 4. Sections 5, 11 and 13 survive closure.

13. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, without affecting any rights you have as a consumer in the part of the UK where you live.

14. Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be shown to signed-in users; continuing to use the service after the effective date means you accept them.
